Save the Date:

The National Citizen Leadership Conference June 22nd‐June 25th, 2018!

On June 22nd through the 25th, we'll gather in our nation's capital to discuss our common goal of winning The 28th Amendment. We hope you will join us to celebrate the progress we have made and the lessons we've learned along the way.

The National Citizen Leader Conference will provide an excellent opportunity to meet others working on our common cause, as well as:

  • Discuss strategy, unity and the way forward to reclaiming our democracy
  • Celebrate our political, demographic and experiential similarities and differences
  • Generate enthusiasm for work that still needs to be done, while listening to and learning from a variety of distinguished speakers

American Promise is pleased to announce we will be holding our first congressional lobby day June 25th.

This optional lobby day will provide a unique opportunity to make our voices heard to our nation's leaders. The diverse group of citizen leaders who attend the lobby day will demonstrate the non-partisan will for a 28th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution.

Back by popular demand, the sensational 2-man play 'Go, Granny D!' will be preformed again at the 2018 NCLC. Off-Broadway actress Barbara Bates Smith and musician Jeff Sebens highlight the story of Doris "Granny D" Haddock who, at age 90, walked 3200-miles across the United States to raise support for campaign finance reform. Haddock's determination inspired Americans everywhere and lead the way to the Bipartisan Campaign Reform Act of 2002.

The 28th Amendment, created by the people and not large donors, is a historic goal that requires many communities to work together to overcome the constitutional crisis we face. The National Citizen Leadership Conference is a celebration of that cause, the work that we have done, and the work that we intend to do. We hope you can join us, so please save the date!

The 2016 National Citizen Leadership Conference: Together We Win

Together We Win was our theme, our strategy, and our mission in hosting this gathering to prepare for the 28th Amendment.  An amendment is a bold action handed up by the people and demands that we deliberate on our strategic approach, expand our capacities to engage and inspire others in our communities, and collect the tools we need to be most effective in our shared work to create balance in our politics and government with people, not money.  This is what we did:

        • Celebrated progress, citizen leadership, and congressional courage
        • Listened and learned in an environment of civility and patriotism
        • Networked with fellow citizens across the movement and across the country
        • Shared meals, ad hoc conversation, collaborative art, music, and live theatre
        • Built energy, strategy, and unity for the work ahead

In this time of Constitutional crisis, with over 80% of Americans in agreement, the Conference provided the setting and structure for us to talk to one another, to listen to one another, and to return to our communities equipped to do likewise.

We have collected tools and materials that we hope will inform and inspire you to join this historic cause.
